The Four Guardians – It’s a busy time to be them!
As you gaze upward upon the cosmos to discover the signs in the heavens promised by God, don’t forget to notice what the four Guardians are up to down here.
The name and location Isaiah used to describe the great superpower of his day was Egypt. As it works out, because Isaiah saw the beginning from the end, he was able to harmonize the things he wrote about ancient Egypt with the things he saw happening to the great end time superpower, America. So, ancient Egypt served as a type for modern America (that’d be us). As Egypt ascended toward the apogee of its empire, prosperity and existence, it began to detach from religious underpinnings that had, without enough credit from them, fueled their success. Once substantially detached, though some effort was made by some to keep it tethered to gospel practices, it relied on its own leader’s guidance, wisdom and military might for direction. Absent religious orientation and affiliation with God and an effort to please Him, the result became unexpected and substantial decline. “Egypt believed there were ‘four sons of Horus.’ This idea was left over from the Patriarchal era and was their apostate belief that roughly corresponded to the four archangels: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel. Yet Egypt chose to fight against these four until they were destroyed. Once Egypt was defeated, for centuries Israel’s religion increased and Egypt’s waned. Eventually, this led to the ultimate death of Egypt’s religion. So complete was the God of Israel’s overthrow of Egypt that the Egyptian language itself was altogether lost until the Rosetta Stone made it possible to reconstruct (in part) the identities of some of Egypt’s defeated gods and fragments of Egypt’s ancient beliefs Religion of the Fathers, Denver Snuffer pg 115.
All of the troubles experienced as inputs by the four great Guardians were in all reality invitations to repent. Did they? Should have, but did not. If Egypt is a type for America, then, as we are able to now observe in real time, America has in the past decades ascended toward and perhaps reached the apogee of its prosperity and greatness and will, consistent with Isaiah’s prophecies and observations, experience unexpected and substantial decline. And, like Egypt, as it detaches from its religious underpinnings which have fueled its greatness and relies on its own leader’s guidance, wisdom and military might for direction, it too will and is experiencing a similar fate. It, like Egypt, will fight against the progressively harsher inputs by the four Guardians and their heavenly hosts until it meets the end of its organized existence, its government is terminated and its people deprived of their land and their cultural dominance – in other words, destroyed. Scripturally it is put this way –
· “And thus with the sword and by bloodshed, the inhabitants of the earth shall mourn. And with famine, and plague, and earthquake, and the thunder of heaven, and the fierce and vivid lightning also, shall the inhabitants of the earth be made to feel the wrath, and indignation, and chastening hand of an Almighty God, until the consumption decreed has made a full end of all nations…” (T&C 85:3)
“Abide in the liberty wherewith you are made free. Entangle not yourselves in sin, but let your hands be clean until the Lord come, for not many days hence and the earth shall tremble and reel to and fro as a drunken man, and the sun shall hide his face and shall refuse to give light, and the moon shall be bathed in blood, and the stars shall become exceeding angry and shall cast themselves down as a fig that falls from off a fig tree. And after your testimony comes wrath and indignation upon the people, for after your testimony comes the testimony of earthquakes that shall cause groanings in the midst of her: and men shall fall upon the ground and shall not be able to stand, and also comes the testimony of the voice of thunderings, and the voice of lightnings, and the voice of tempests, and the voice of the waves of the sea heaving themselves beyond their bounds. And all things shall be in commotion, and surely men’s hearts shall fail them, for fear shall come upon all people.” (T&C 86: 17-18)
All are inputs from the four great Guardians. What may the four Guardians be up to now, in our time? Well, whatever it is it becomes progressively worse until the end.
Here’s a brief recap on the four great Guardians --
· “Michael, who in mortality was Adam, is associated with air – ‘breath of life’ (Genesis 2:11 [Moses 3:4-7])
· “Gabriel, who in mortality was Noah is associated with water – ‘the flood’ (Genesis 5:12 [Moses 8:28-30])
· “Raphael, who in mortality was Enoch, is associated with fire - the ‘fiery ascent’ (Genesis 4:23 [Moses 7:65-69]), and
· “Uriel, who in mortality as John the Beloved, is associated with land - who ‘tarries on earth’ (TSJ 12:20 [John 21:23])
“The signs wonders, and plagues in Egypt involved the four great Guardians. These four angelic guardians controlled the elements that were turned against the Egyptians and directly challenged and defeated the false Egyptian gods, with the three days of darkness (see Exodus 7:4 [10:21-29) defeating even Ra.”Religion of the Fathers, Denver Snuffer pg. 114 footnote #264
The events in Egypt became progressively punitive hoping they’d repent until, as noted above, their civilization and language was in ruins.
Is our path an echo of theirs?
Consider these examples – you can think of more.
· Prior to hurricane Ian, citrus greening disease had Florida on a trajectory to produce the worst orange crop since the early 1940’s. Ian damaged further what was already forecast to be the lowest Florida orange crop in decades. Orange production in Florida is down by 32%, enough to make this the scantiest predicted harvest in nearly 80 years. As a consequence, orange juice prices are soaring to record heights as inventories collapse. You know, if you’ve been to the grocery stores recently, the problem isn’t confined to oranges. Hurricane Ian alone may spike many food prices.
Next
· With the extreme draught-stricken Mississippi River dropping in areas to the lowest levels ever recorded, hundreds of barges along it have come to a standstill. In early October, some 2,000 barges clogged the channels in long pileups along the river south of Memphis. The more than 400 million tons reliant on the waterway to be moved will not be delivered to their destination timely, straining the supply chain. You know the ole’ saying “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.” And, this is only one of the links in the supply chain that have begun to fail. A tremendous amount of rain is needed in order to fix this problem, but unfortunately there won’t be too much rain for the foreseeable future.
And then of course there’s this -
· The American West is facing its most severe drought in human history. Research suggests conditions are drier now than they have been for at least 1,200 years. The receding water level in western Lake Meade puts the Hoover Dam’s ability to produce electricity at risk. Additionally, downstream cropland reliant upon the stored water from Lake Meade for its bountiful production is withering. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, nearly every portion of the United States west of the Florida panhandle is in some level of drought.
· Drought forces farmers to scale back and others to fold as economists warn of price hikes.
And this headline
· Bird Flu Outbreak Nears Worst Ever in U.S. With 37 Million Dead Chickens
Then this –
· Magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattles San Francisco Bay Area, the largest to strike the region in years – Tuesday, October 25th 2022. Along “the Ring of Fire,” upon which the entire west coast of the United State sits, scientists assure us that “the Big One” is way overdue, and the potential for cataclysmic seismic events on the west coast is long overdue.
· Same day, different place -- Strong quake shakes northern Philippines - magnitude 6.4
And this
· The Scale of Pakistan’s Flooding is Hard to Comprehend - It’s hard to absorb the scale of the devastation. The flooding has affected 33 million people across the country, nearly half of them children.
All this to say – The four great Guardians are busy and will be progressively busier as time passes in “the troubling season now fast approaching.” (T&C 158:12). Don’t not notice!!
Here may be in substance the command from the Lord to the Guardians:
“And again, the Lord shall utter his voice out of Heaven saying, Hearken, O you nations of the earth, and hear the words of that God who made you: O you nations of the earth, how often would I have gathered you as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, but you would not? How oft have I called upon you by the mouth of my servants, and by the ministering of angels, and by my own voice, and by the voice of thunderings, and by the voice of lightnings, and by the voice of tempests, and by the voice of earthquakes and great hailstorms, and by the voice of famines and pestilences of every kind, and by the great sound of a trump, and by the voice of judgments, and by the voice of mercy all the day long, and by the voice of glory and honor and the riches of eternal life, and would have saved you with an everlasting salvation, but you would not? Behold, the day has come when the cup of the wrath of my indignation is full.” (T&C 29:8)
What is happening? The gods America has worshipped--men, wealth, prosperity, desire for recognition, comfort, etc., are being challenged. Like the Egyptian’s gods they will and are failing us, yet few respond with repentance.
The Four Great Guardians are with us!
Hold on, it’s going to be a wild ride.
